Brody, age 10, has been involved with The B Fund since its founding. During the summer of 2017, he wanted to make an even bigger difference in the families of critically ill children.
He learned that, when a family stays in the hospital for a long time, they often don’t have meals provided for them. In fact, meal vouchers cost a parent $25 each day! Brody decided to set a fundraising goal of $1500, enough to provide a mom and dad with a full month of meal vouchers.
Brody was delighted when Youth Service America (YSA) recognized his ambition and awarded him with a $500 grant to support his efforts. Brody is one of 270 children across the country to receive this grant.
He got planning, and decided to raise his goal through a Sweet Sale, Yard Sale, and Recycle Drive in addition to participating in The B Fund’s 2017 Halloween Candy Drive.
On December 2, Brody held “Brody’s Sweet Sale” to kickstart his independent fundraising efforts.
Brody contacted friends, family members, and neighbors to enlist their support in baking sweets. With help from The B Fund, he prepared tins in which to sell all of his baked goods.
Ultimately, the event was a huge success! The Sweet Sale engaged 20 children, who contributed their time and talents by baking breads, brownies, caramel apples and more. Brody packaged the items into tins, which were sold for $10 each.
Brody was pleased when every single item sold! At the end of the event, Brody’s Sweet Sale raised $697.31 toward meal vouchers for a family in need, bringing him one step closer to his overall goal of $1500.
So what’s next for this kind-hearted fourth grader? He’s working with his teacher and principal to lead a school-wide Recycle Drive! Follow along on his fundraising page to see his progress and even help out!
